Modeling Breaking Waves and Studying Amplitude Dependent Behavior

چکیده

This project implements a method, presented by Longuet-Higgins and Cokelet, for modeling the breaking of ocean waves. Five waves are generated, with the same shaped profile but different amplitudes. Their behavior over time is compared, and it is seen that higher amplitude waves break faster and with a sharper point. Additionally, a variable S is calculated to measure the surfability of these waves. The second smallest wave, 2πa = 0.4, has the greatest value for S.

Shear-Wave Dynamic Behavior using Two Different Orientations

For laterally complex media, it may be more suitable to take a different orientation of thedisplacement vector of Shear-waves. This may change the sign of several imaginary reflections andconversion coefficients to be used in reservoir characterization and AVO (Amplitude Versus Offset)analysis or modeling. In this new convention the positive direction of the displacement vector ofreflected Shea...

Modeling the Tensile Behavior of Fibers with Geometrical and Structural Irregularities

Virtually all fibers exhibit some dimensional and structural irregularities. These include the conventional textile fibers, the high-performance brittle fibers and even the newly developed nano-fibers. In recent years, we have systematically examined the effect of fiber dimensional irregularities on the mechanical behavior of the irregular fibers. This paper extends our research to include the ...

Weakly-compressible SPH and Experimental modeling of periodic wave breaking on a plane slope

Breaking waves have ability to transport large quantities of sediment and significant impact on coastal structures morphology. Hence, modeling of wave breaking is an important subject in coastal and marine engineering. In this research, the periodic wave breaking process on a plane slope is studied experimentally and numerically. Laboratory experiments were conducted to record water surface ele...

Steep. Short-Crested Waves and Related Phenomena

Steep, short-crested waves, as well as a large variety of three-dimensional propagating wave patterns have been created in laboratory, utilizing a plunging half-cone. Monochromatic waves, over a range of frequencies and amplitudes through breaking and including soliton wave groups near resonance, have been observed and studied in a small wave flume. This monochromatic wavemaker creates complex ...

Three-Dimensional Evolution of Large-Amplitude Internal Waves in the Strait of Gibraltar

The modeling of large-amplitude internal waves (LAIWs) propagating in the Strait of Gibraltar is carried out using a fully nonlinear nonhydrostatic numerical model. The focus of the modeling efforts was on three-dimensional peculiarities of LAIW evolution, namely, cross-strait variability, interaction with lateral boundaries (including wave breaking and water mixing), radiation of secondary wav...
